An Interdisciplinary Approach
A Method that Covers All the Bases
Interdisciplinary studies approach complex problems using insights from appropriate disciplines and integrate those unique disciplinary perspectives to construct a comprehensive understanding of a problem. It synthesizes techniques, information, viewpoints, concepts, or theories from respective disciplines to provide a wider scope of knowledge than that of a single disciplinary perspective. This offers a more interconnected approach to complex problems to yield equally holistic, complex solutions.
My approach to writing and editing mirrors that of interdisciplinary studies: With each project comes a unique set of information, audience, theories, evidence, perspectives, and more. Interdisciplinarity allows me to identify the weight of these individual elements and combine these insights to create an appropriate method of writing fit for the task at hand (for instance, a research paper requires a different writing strategy than critical commentary). Editing using this same interdisciplinary lens further strengthens and refines any project. An interdisciplinary education makes me equipped to tackle a variety of writing and editing tasks, from any subject, and from any genre.
